Script Submissions - A Message from the Artistic Director

Tiata Fahodzi takes incredible pride in the original material we have been instrumental in bringing to the wider theatregoing community. As we look to broaden our artistic horizons, the challenge for us is two-fold. Firstly, to build on the exceptionally high standards we have set; and secondly to do so by continuing an active engagement with voices across the cultural, national and socio-political spectrum of the African experience in the 21st Century and the on-going story that is the human experience.

Whilst we embrace this philosophy wholeheartedly, we do so on the understanding that we cannot practically produce and/or develop all the material that comes through our door, much as we would wish to. We will at the very least acknowledge the receipt of your work and make a concerted effort to offer constructive feedback. But please, dear artists out there take note: to do so takes time and we therefore cannot offer set deadlines; be patient: we will be in touch!

And finally a few ‘Housekeeping’ notes:

  • Please include with your script a synopsis of no longer than 1 full page.
  • Please include a biography of no longer than 1 full page.
  • Numbered pages are always more attractive than non-numbered ones.
  • If your work has dialogue or sections in a language other than English please include translations, glossaries etc.
  • Please include cast size i.e. number of actors your piece required and if at all there is a possibility for actors to ‘double’ or ‘triple up’ i.e. where actors might play more than one character.
  • If your work has been produced/reviewed/ honoured elsewhere please include this information in your biography. This will not prejudice it in any way; it is always helpful to know.
  • No hand-written scripts will be accepted.
  • We are primarily and principally a theatre company. We will not consider material from any other visual medium unless it is specifically adapted for the stage.
  • If you would like your script returned please include a SAE.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Play on!

New Writing at Tiata Fahodzi

Tiata Fahodzi has a proven track record in seeking the best new writing. We have well-established developmental processes for new scripts. We take care to nurture, encourage and support our writers.

As well as full productions of our new commissions we provide a platform for work in development. Our ‘performance readings’ at Tiata Delights festivals are highly popular with the public and the theatre industry and regularly lead to our featured writers being taken on by other companies. In recent years, to name only a couple of successes, Levi David Addai’s Oxford Street (Tiata Delights 07) was produced at the Royal Court Theatre and Michael Bhim’s Pure Gold (Tiata Delights 06) was produced by Talawa and Soho Theatre.
