meet our new friendship producer: kiki brown
We were looking for someone ambitious, curious and friendly with vision and drive to experiment with us to discover new ways of doing things, and we found her. Introducing the newest member of the tiata family – Kiki Brown
why did you apply for the role of friendship producer?
My friends make me feel seen, held and important, and the idea of spending my days making other people feel like that is what made me apply for the role of Friendship Producer. I’ve always really connected to the idea of sonder:
the realisation that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own
This role allows me to engage with people and learn about that vividness, while also working in the environment where I feel most at home – theatre
define friendship in your own way.
Friendship to me is multi-faceted, but ultimately about being present. It’s about showing up for someone and having them show up for you. It’s about finding someone whose mess matches yours, and knowing you’ll not only see each other through it, but love each other through it, and have a giggle along the way. It’s about finding your humans and loving them so much that standing in the cold to cheer them on in a sport you have no interest in doesn’t seem like a big ask. It’s about mutual respect and understanding without judgment.
Growing up, my mother always used to say to me, ‘show me your company, and I’ll tell you who you are.’ Your friends are the family you choose, and every friend is a mirror to different facets of your soul. The Friendship Model is about ‘doing life together’, an idea so simple, but when you think about it, what could be better than someone wanting to simply ‘do life’ with you?
what are you most excited about with your new role?
I’m most excited to explore what it means to make friends with a whole community; to think about not only them, but the people that love them, the people that miss them, the stories they have to tell. If you really listen to the hum of a community you never know what you’ll learn, and that to me is so exciting. I’m also really interested in the experimental aspect of this role. Every day is different, and I like to be kept on my toes! .
tell us something different/unique about yourself?
I have 31 first cousins! My family is huge, and I love it. I think it’s helped me prepare for the job too, as I’m used to navigating a lot of different personalities!
what would be your ultimate four song playlist to get you in the mood for a working day?
It would consist of ‘I Like That’ by Janelle Monae, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ by Queen, ‘Video’ by India Arie and ‘Juicy’ by the RH Factor. I feel like this combination inspires the perfect balance of fierceness, self-belief and motivation to get me ready for a positive and productive day.

what’s your new year’s resolution?
My New Year’s Resolution is to listen to understand – not to respond, because to truly listen is an invaluable skill.
