In 1960, 17 African countries became independent. To mark the 50th anniversary of this important year, BBC World Drama and Tiata Fahodzi presented an evening of African plays from across the continent from the last 5 decades. An all-star cast performed excerpts from plays from Cameroon, Madagascar, Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso and London – which together formed a fascinating backdrop to the story of Africa.

A celebration of 50 years of African drama first broadcasts on BBC World Service:
Saturday 16 October 2010 at 19.00 GMT and Sunday 17 October 23.00 GMT
